Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty

As the central feature on our face, our nose is impossible to hide. Yet a large number of people state that their nose is one of their least favorite aspects of their appearance. Unsurprisingly, being unhappy with the appearance of your nose can have a serious effect on your confidence.

To improve the shape and appearance of their nose, many people turn to rhinoplasty. Aside from the cosmetic benefit of rhinoplasty, many patients who suffer from breathing problems as a result of a flat nose, narrowed nostrils, or other anatomical problems, may find that their symptoms improve as a result of their rhinoplasty surgery.

Rhinoplasty procedure

Rhinoplasty surgery is performed using a general anesthetic and usually takes under two hours to complete, depending on the extent of the work that needs to be carried out. Exactly what will happen during a rhinoplasty procedure depends on the cosmetic changes that you wish to make to your appearance, and the key elements of your surgery will be discussed with you ahead of your appointment. Some of the most types of rhinoplasty include:

● Reduction rhinoplasty, which focuses on reshaping the nose to make it smaller.

● Augmentation rhinoplasty, which corrects a nose that has been flattened by rebuilding the framework.

● Septorhinoplasty, which alters the appearance of the septum (the part that divides the nostrils) in addition to the outer part of the nose.

● Rhinotip, in which only the nostrils and tip of the nose are altered.

Recovery from rhinoplasty

Immediately after your rhinoplasty surgery, you may be in some discomfort and may be reliant on pain medications for a few days. Most patients find that they can return to work as soon as four or five days after their surgery, but as the swelling and bruising can last much longer than this, many choose to take off from work a little longer if possible.

Dr. LoTempio will give you specific aftercare instructions to follow in the days and weeks after your procedure, and this should be adhered to closely to minimize your risk of post-operative complications and to give you the best result from your procedure. It may take up to a month for the swelling and bruises to completely subside, after which time you should be able to start seeing the final appearance of your nose.

Dr. LoTempio understands the importance of the appearance of the nose and will recommend changes to the nose that will both be subtle and transformative, helping her patients to achieve confidence and improvement of their appearance. Dr. LoTempio is also an Otolaryngologist. Not only does she perform rhinoplasty, but she also performs septoplasties and function problems as well.
